Use a CS2 soundboard without sacrificing push-to-talk or team comms
Counter-Strike 2 combines a selectable voice input with a push-to-talk bind, Steam audio state, teammate mute controls, and communication penalties that can hide a player from others by default. BordQ combines a physical microphone with triggered clips before the signal reaches Counter-Strike 2, so listeners receive one controlled voice feed instead of speaker audio leaking back into an open microphone.
A working Windows meter can still produce silence when CS2 has cached another input, the talk key is released before the clip ends, the bind collides with a BordQ hotkey, voice volume is disabled, or the account is muted for communication abuse. This guide covers the exact input route, the channel or mode that controls delivery, a low-risk test, and the failure that is most often mistaken for a broken virtual cable.
Keep the virtual microphone predictable and the team channel useful.
BordQ places speech and clips on CABLE Output. CS2 must record that device, then the voice bind must remain active while the game sends it. Individual mutes and account communication state can suppress a correct signal for specific listeners.
Keep incoming call or game audio out of VB-Cable. Only the BordQ microphone-and-clip mix should enter CABLE Input; routing both directions through the same cable creates echo, delayed duplicates, or a feedback loop.
Select CABLE Output under the CS2 voice input setting and keep game audio on the physical headset. If the current build follows the Steam or Windows default instead, select the cable there before starting the game and relaunch after the change.

Three ways to place sounds around a CS2 match
Use the route that preserves tactical information and limits the audience to people who expect the clip.
- BordQ into a private CS2 party
Warmups, community servers, and agreed reactions among friends.
Push-to-talk timing and game processing still apply.
Use this as the first and safest in-game test.
- BordQ into Discord
A premade group that wants clips separate from public team voice.
Players outside Discord cannot hear them, even when they are teammates.
Prefer this when tactical CS2 voice should stay clean.
- BordQ into public team voice
Rare, relevant cues accepted by the team and server.
Spam or abusive audio can be reported and lead to default muting or penalties.
Keep competitive comms brief, useful, and non-disruptive.
Route BordQ into Counter-Strike 2 in five steps
Configure the path from source to destination, then prove the complete route with one short clip before a real call, match, or public room.
- Install BordQ and expose both VB-Cable endpoints
Install BordQ on Windows and let its audio-driver setup finish. Restart Windows if CABLE Input and CABLE Output do not appear in the device lists.
CABLE Input is the playback endpoint BordQ sends to; CABLE Output is the recording endpoint the destination hears.
- Build one clean mic-and-clip mix
In BordQ Audio Setup, select the physical microphone as Microphone Input and VB-Cable Input as Virtual Cable (Output). Trigger a short, normalized clip and confirm the BordQ and Windows recording meters move.
Leave headphones as the playback device. Do not route the destination output back into the cable.
- Point CS2 voice input at CABLE Output
Open CS2 Settings > Audio and choose CABLE Output under Voice Input Audio Device when the picker is available. If the game follows the Steam or Windows default recording device, change that default before launch and restart CS2.
Leave headphones as the output device. Selecting the cable for both input and output sends teammates back into the microphone route.
- Give push-to-talk and sound triggers separate keys
Open Keyboard / Mouse communication bindings, choose a comfortable Use Mic key, and assign BordQ sounds to combinations that do not collide with movement, buying, grenades, scoreboard, console, or the microphone bind. Hold Use Mic from just before playback through the clip tail.
A global BordQ hotkey can launch a clip while CS2 is focused, but it cannot open the game's transmit gate for you.
- Test in a private lobby before a live round
Join one trusted listener, confirm normal speech, play a short quiet clip while holding Use Mic, and check that release ends transmission. Ask the listener to mute and unmute you once so you can distinguish local routing from per-player mute state.
Do not use a competitive round as the first test of input selection, gain, or hotkey timing.
Input, transmit key, and listener state must all be open
The recording meter is only the first of three independent checkpoints.
- Voice input — CABLE Output
Carries the BordQ speech-and-clip mix.
- Use Mic bind — Held for full clip
Controls when CS2 transmits.
- Listener mute / penalty — Can hide valid voice
Routing cannot override moderation state.
Counter-Strike communication penalties can mute accounts by default after abuse reports. Never use soundboards to block callouts, bait reports, impersonate players, or target teammates.
Fix a Counter-Strike 2 soundboard that is silent, doubled, or in the wrong place
Follow the signal from left to right and change one setting at a time. A local monitor is useful, but only a remote listener proves the final channel.
- CABLE Output shows no recording activity — Return to BordQ and confirm Virtual Cable (Output) is VB-Cable Input. Check Windows microphone privacy permissions, driver installation, device mute, and the BordQ output meter.
- The meter moves, but listeners hear nothing — Re-select CABLE Output, restart CS2 after device changes, confirm voice volume and microphone permission, hold Use Mic for the full clip, and test with a listener who has not muted you.
- Listeners hear themselves or a delayed duplicate — Incoming audio is entering the cable, or speakers are feeding an open physical microphone. Use headphones, remove loopback or monitoring routes, and monitor the BordQ mix in only one place.
- Some teammates hear the clip, while others never do — The shared microphone route is working. Ask affected players to check their scoreboard mute, voice volume, and whether your account appears default-muted; do not increase gain to solve a listener-side mute.
Questions to settle before using it live
Which microphone should Counter-Strike 2 use?
Choose CABLE Output as Voice Input Audio Device in CS2. If the current client follows the Steam or Windows default, set the same endpoint there before launching.
Can I keep speaking while a clip plays?
Yes. BordQ mixes the selected physical microphone and clips into CABLE Output. Balance clip gain below normal speech and use ducking or short clips when intelligibility matters.
Why can I hear a clip that nobody else hears?
Local monitoring proves only the playback side. Check CABLE Output activity, the destination input, active channel, mute or push-to-talk state, permissions, and a remote listener.
Can a BordQ hotkey also activate CS2 push-to-talk?
Treat them as separate controls. Hold the CS2 Use Mic bind, then trigger BordQ. Separate bindings avoid accidental transmissions and make the clip start and stop predictable.
Is a soundboard allowed here?
Keep tactical communication clear and follow Valve and server rules. Use clips with consenting teammates, never spam public voice, and stop immediately when anyone asks or the match needs real callouts.
