Use a Fortnite soundboard in the right Party or Game Chat channel

Fortnite separates Party Chat from Game Chat, applies account communication permissions and parental controls, and can follow explicit or Windows-default input devices on PC. BordQ combines a physical microphone with triggered clips before the signal reaches Fortnite, so listeners receive one controlled voice feed instead of speaker audio leaking back into an open microphone.

A working CABLE Output can appear silent when the player joined the wrong channel, stayed in console party chat, has push-to-talk held incorrectly, or is restricted by age and communication settings. This guide covers the exact input route, the channel or mode that controls delivery, a low-risk test, and the failure that is most often mistaken for a broken virtual cable.

Choose who should hear the clip before troubleshooting the cable.

Party Chat reaches the people grouped in the lobby, while Game Chat follows the active team or island experience. A clip routed correctly to the microphone still reaches nobody outside the selected channel, and platform party chat can keep Fortnite game chat disconnected.

Keep incoming call or game audio out of VB-Cable. Only the BordQ microphone-and-clip mix should enter CABLE Input; routing both directions through the same cable creates echo, delayed duplicates, or a feedback loop.

Open Settings → Audio and select CABLE Output as the voice input when the picker is available. If Fortnite is using Default Input, set CABLE Output as the Windows default recording device, relaunch the game, then verify Voice Chat and Push To Talk.

Three places a Fortnite clip can be sent

Use the smallest channel that includes the intended listeners and respects the current experience.

Route BordQ into Fortnite in five steps

Configure the path from source to destination, then prove the complete route with one short clip before a real call, match, or public room.

  1. Install BordQ and expose both VB-Cable endpoints

Install BordQ on Windows and let its audio-driver setup finish. Restart Windows if CABLE Input and CABLE Output do not appear in the device lists.

CABLE Input is the playback endpoint BordQ sends to; CABLE Output is the recording endpoint the destination hears.

  2. Build one clean mic-and-clip mix

In BordQ Audio Setup, select the physical microphone as Microphone Input and VB-Cable Input as Virtual Cable (Output). Trigger a short, normalized clip and confirm the BordQ and Windows recording meters move.

Leave headphones as the playback device. Do not route the destination output back into the cable.

  3. Point Fortnite voice input at CABLE Output

Open Fortnite Settings → Audio. Under Voice Chat, choose CABLE Output when an input picker is shown; otherwise make CABLE Output the Windows default recording device before launching. Confirm voice chat is not set to Nobody or Off.

After changing a Windows default, restart Fortnite so its device list and voice service refresh.

  4. Select Party Chat, Game Chat, and the voice method

Use the Social menu to enter Party Chat or Game Chat deliberately. Check whether Push To Talk is enabled and hold the bound key before triggering a clip. Leave Xbox or PlayStation party chat if Fortnite Game Chat is the destination.

Account age, parental controls, and communication preferences can limit which voice audiences are available.

  5. Test with a friend in both Fortnite channels

Join a private party, verify speech and one short clip in Party Chat, then switch both accounts to Game Chat in a low-stakes experience. Confirm the listener hears one copy and that muting Fortnite stops both voice and clips.

A two-channel test isolates routing from party membership and experience permissions.

Party, game, platform, and permission layers can all silence voice

The device is only the first checkpoint in Fortnite’s communication path.

Fortnite voice may be reported and moderated. Never use clips to harass, impersonate, evade communication restrictions, or flood public channels.

Fix a Fortnite soundboard that is silent, doubled, or in the wrong place

Follow the signal from left to right and change one setting at a time. A local monitor is useful, but only a remote listener proves the final channel.

Questions to settle before using it live

Which microphone should Fortnite use?

Choose CABLE Output in Fortnite’s Audio settings when available. If the game shows Default Input, set CABLE Output as the Windows default before launch and keep the physical microphone mixed inside BordQ.

Can I keep speaking while a clip plays?

Yes. BordQ mixes the selected physical microphone and clips into CABLE Output. Balance clip gain below normal speech and use ducking or short clips when intelligibility matters.

Why can I hear a clip that nobody else hears?

Local monitoring proves only the playback side. Check CABLE Output activity, the destination input, active channel, mute or push-to-talk state, permissions, and a remote listener.

What is the difference between Party Chat and Game Chat?

Party Chat connects players grouped in your party. Game Chat connects the audience defined by the current team or island experience. Both listeners and sender must be in the intended channel.

Is a soundboard allowed here?

Follow Epic’s community rules and voice-reporting policies. Use clips with friends who want them, keep tactical comms clear, and never use repeated, deceptive, abusive, sexual, or excessively loud audio in public or youth-accessible spaces.
