Turn Stream Deck keys into a routed soundboard for Discord, calls, and games

Stream Deck can trigger audio either through a generic Soundboard action or through an app plugin, while BordQ’s native integration keeps playback, profiles, mic mixing, and virtual-cable routing in one audio engine. BordQ combines a physical microphone with triggered clips before the signal reaches Stream Deck, so listeners receive one controlled voice feed instead of speaker audio leaking back into an open microphone.

Two actions can look identical on the hardware but send sound to different devices; stacking Elgato playback and BordQ playback can double a clip or bypass the microphone mix entirely. This guide covers the exact input route, the channel or mode that controls delivery, a low-risk test, and the failure that is most often mistaken for a broken virtual cable.

Let Stream Deck control BordQ while BordQ owns the audio destination.

The key press should tell BordQ which sound to play. BordQ then mixes that clip with the physical microphone and sends the result into VB-Cable. This separation keeps hardware profiles flexible without duplicating every audio-device choice inside Stream Deck.

Keep incoming call or game audio out of VB-Cable. Only the BordQ microphone-and-clip mix should enter CABLE Input; routing both directions through the same cable creates echo, delayed duplicates, or a feedback loop.

Install or enable the BordQ Stream Deck plugin, add BordQ sound actions to keys, and map each action to the intended sound or command. Keep CABLE Output selected in the destination app; do not also place Elgato’s generic Soundboard action on the same key.

Three ways a Stream Deck key can launch audio

Choose one owner for playback so levels, stops, overlaps, profiles, and the voice route remain predictable.

Route BordQ into Stream Deck in five steps

Configure the path from source to destination, then prove the complete route with one short clip before a real call, match, or public room.

  1. Install BordQ and expose both VB-Cable endpoints

Install BordQ on Windows and let its audio-driver setup finish. Restart Windows if CABLE Input and CABLE Output do not appear in the device lists.

CABLE Input is the playback endpoint BordQ sends to; CABLE Output is the recording endpoint the destination hears.

  2. Build one clean mic-and-clip mix

In BordQ Audio Setup, select the physical microphone as Microphone Input and VB-Cable Input as Virtual Cable (Output). Trigger a short, normalized clip and confirm the BordQ and Windows recording meters move.

Leave headphones as the playback device. Do not route the destination output back into the cable.

  3. Add BordQ actions to a Stream Deck profile

Open Stream Deck, find the BordQ action category, drag sound actions onto keys, and select the matching BordQ clip or command. Use a dedicated profile for the destination or game.

A native action communicates intent directly; it does not depend on the target window owning keyboard focus.

  4. Choose stop, overlap, and page behavior deliberately

Decide whether repeat presses should restart, overlap, stop, or do nothing, and reserve obvious keys for Stop All or emergency mute. Group related sounds by profile page and keep destructive or loud actions away from navigation keys.

Test long-press, repeat press, profile switching, and reconnection after either app restarts.

  5. Verify hardware, BordQ, cable, and remote listener in order

Press one key and confirm the Stream Deck state changes, BordQ shows the correct sound, CABLE Output records it, and a private Discord or game listener hears one copy. Restart BordQ and Stream Deck once to verify reconnection.

Four checkpoints make a plugin problem distinguishable from an audio-route problem.

One key, one playback engine, one voice route

Reliable hardware profiles avoid two actions playing or routing the same source independently.

Keep a visible Stop All control, normalize clips before mapping them, and test profiles privately before a stream, call, or match.

Fix a Stream Deck soundboard that is silent, doubled, or in the wrong place

Follow the signal from left to right and change one setting at a time. A local monitor is useful, but only a remote listener proves the final channel.

Questions to settle before using it live

Which microphone should Stream Deck use?

Stream Deck itself is not the microphone. Keep CABLE Output selected in Discord, the call app, or the game; the Stream Deck key triggers BordQ, and BordQ sends the mixed result into that microphone route.

Can I keep speaking while a clip plays?

Yes. BordQ mixes the selected physical microphone and clips into CABLE Output. Balance clip gain below normal speech and use ducking or short clips when intelligibility matters.

Why can I hear a clip that nobody else hears?

Local monitoring proves only the playback side. Check CABLE Output activity, the destination input, active channel, mute or push-to-talk state, permissions, and a remote listener.

Should I use Elgato’s built-in Soundboard action or BordQ?

Use BordQ’s native action when the sound must join your microphone and existing BordQ profiles. Use Elgato’s generic action for separate local playback. Do not assign both to the same clip unless you intentionally want two copies.

Is a soundboard allowed here?

Label keys clearly, cap gains, keep Stop All accessible, and use sounds only where participants accept them. Hardware makes repetition effortless, so it also makes accidental spam and dangerously loud playback easier.

Make each Stream Deck key trigger one predictable BordQ action.

Download BordQ, map native Stream Deck actions, keep BordQ responsible for playback and routing, and verify one key through CABLE Output with a remote listener. BordQ's full soundboard, Live Audio, Mobile Remote, and native Stream Deck integration remain free; Pro adds expanded limits, Voice Personas, and Voice Changer without a subscription.
