Play audio in Zoom without fighting speech filters

Zoom gives you two legitimate paths. Share Computer Sound—or the Music or Computer Sound Only option—sends a separate high-quality share feed. A virtual-cable route sends BordQ through CABLE Output as your microphone, so clips and your real mic travel together without starting a share session.

Neither is universally better. Native sharing is excellent for a planned video or music segment. The microphone route is better for instant soundboard buttons, teaching cues, breakout-room movement, and calls where you must remain a normal participant rather than an active sharer. Original Sound for Musicians is the setting that stops Zoom from treating music like background noise.

A share feed and a microphone feed are not the same thing.

Zoom’s share interface can send computer sound with a screen, and current desktop versions also expose Music or Computer Sound Only without sharing a visual screen. It is still a share session with its own controls and participant context—not a replacement for your microphone device.

The BordQ route combines the physical mic and selected audio locally, then Zoom receives CABLE Output as one microphone. This is useful when a teacher triggers short cues, a presenter moves between rooms, or a participant needs clips available without repeatedly starting and stopping a share.

Use the lane that matches the meeting

The deciding question is whether audio is a planned shared presentation or part of your always-ready microphone workflow.

Play BordQ audio in Zoom in five steps

Set up the virtual microphone, then choose the Zoom audio profile that preserves the material you are sending.

  1. Install BordQ and restart after VB-Cable

    Install BordQ on Windows and allow the setup path to add VB-Cable. If the driver is new, restart Windows before opening Zoom so its microphone list is built with CABLE Output present.

    CABLE Input should appear as playback; CABLE Output should appear as recording.

  2. Build the BordQ mix

    In BordQ Audio Setup, choose the physical mic you use for the meeting and set Virtual Cable (Output) to VB-Cable Input. Add short soundboard cues or prepare Live Audio. Keep the media below speech level before joining.

    Enable Voice Overlap when your voice must remain active while a clip plays.

  3. Select CABLE Output as the Zoom microphone

    Open Zoom Settings → Audio and choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) under Microphone. Use Test Mic with a short clip and a spoken sentence. Leave Speaker set to your real headphones or speakers.

    Only the microphone changes. Selecting the cable as Zoom’s speaker can feed the meeting back into its own input.

  4. Choose Original Sound for Musicians when fidelity matters

    Under Zoom’s Audio Profile or Microphone Modes, select Original Sound for Musicians for music, ambience, and full-range effects. Enable its in-meeting control if Zoom exposes one, and verify it is active. Standard Noise Removal is usually better for speech-only meetings.

    Use headphones: reducing echo cancellation removes a safety net against loudspeaker feedback.

  5. Run a second-participant test

    Join from a phone or another account with its microphone muted. Trigger a quiet cue, a loud effect, music, and speech. Confirm the far-end result, then choose whether a long media segment would be better served by Zoom’s native Share Computer Sound option.

    The Zoom input meter proves signal arrived; only another participant reveals transmitted quality and processing.

Match the profile to what the meeting should hear

Zoom’s default processing is excellent at cleaning speech and intentionally hostile to many non-speech sounds.

Profile names and availability vary by Zoom version and account. Check the current desktop client before the meeting rather than discovering the option live.

Fix silence, chopped music, or echo before attendees arrive

Use Zoom’s Test Mic and a second participant. Your own local monitor does not include Zoom’s transmitted processing.

When to share sound and when to route a mic

Does Zoom already let me share computer sound?

Yes. You can include computer sound with a screen share, and supported desktop clients offer Music or Computer Sound Only. Use those for planned media. A virtual mic remains useful for instant cues, a soundboard mixed with speech, and audio that should not depend on an active share.

What does Original Sound for Musicians do?

It reduces Zoom’s normal speech cleanup and exposes higher-fidelity music options. That helps instruments, music, ambience, and effects survive. Because echo protection may be reduced, use headphones and test before the meeting.

Can people hear my voice and BordQ at the same time?

Yes. Select the physical mic in BordQ, enable Voice Overlap when appropriate, and send the combined mix to VB-Cable Input. Zoom listens to CABLE Output as its microphone.

Is the virtual-cable route better than Share Computer Sound?

It is better for an always-ready soundboard and mixed mic workflow. Native sharing is often better for a long video or music presentation because Zoom receives a dedicated media feed. Many presenters use both at different moments.

Can I use this in breakout rooms?

A selected microphone route normally travels with you as a participant. Native sharing depends on the current room’s sharing permissions and active share state, so it may require another action. Test the host’s breakout permissions before a live class or event.
